...Oahu is pretty congested now. Try not to get island fever by venturing out to other islands yeah. =)
...lived there for bout a year...in my beat up volkswagen vanwagon ...the one with the pop up tent, and mini stove and mini fridge. i had a blast!!! I lived mostly in The Big Island...but fly out to other islands frequently!
...greatest and most useful advice i can give you is to appreciate the hawaiian culture and its people. respect them. leave the mainland mentality and embrace the island...pretty soon, you will be a kama'aina just like me! =)

Melissa Stalter said… - haha nice! I was about 30 minutes from Honolulu. SAdly, no I did not surf. I was staying with my cousin and she had a baby so I was pretty much on my own and i wasnt too keen on surfing without someone I knew. How long do you think you are gonna stay there for?
